What does the star of david stand for? Some say its pagan and some say its the first and last letters of King David's name. Some say it has nothing to do with religion at all. ANSWER: There are supposedly two different forms of the star, one which is pure and one which is a perverted pagan version. We question whether it was the other way around (originally pagan, and then adopted by the Jewish religion). We prefer to stay away from it altogether, as we find nothing in the Scriptures that supports it, and we find this symbol to be a man-made additive. Better to be safe than sorry. Regarding the letters of David's name, we do not see where the star forms either a Hebrew or English "D". Another thing about the star of david is that it seems to be a high point of a symbol for a national or "state" flag. We do not feel that Scripture condones patriotism to the physical nations here on earth, and so we do not support a national flag, be it Israeli, American, etc. etc. (Click here for more explanation on patriotism.) The symbol that we prefer to use is the menorah, which is spoken of several times in the Word. See Exodus 25:31-39, Exodus 37:17-27, 1 Maccabees 4:49-50, and Revelation 1:12-13. |
